2 Years running

I have been a community service worker for the past 7 years at our local Women's Centre and have volunteered at our local soup kitcken as well as the Salvation Army. The Women's Centre provideds food, clothing, a full kitchen for cooking meals, peer support and information on other resources in the area. I am a peer support worker.

Earlier this year my life changed due to simply in the wrong place at a bad time. I was assaulted by two men, one of whom sexually assaulted me after repeatedly slammed my head into the ground while kicking me. I was bruised from head to foot.

As a result I have extreme spinal pain that affects my shoulders, arms and hands. I have also been diagnosed with brain trauma that affects my cognitive thinking and short term memory.I now have been referred to the Kootenay Brain injury society. I don't have an appointment with the person who does the assessment until January.

I have however found a clinic who specializes in brain damage and concussion screening and treatment. It's 150.00 for the assessment and 60.00 for follow up visit 's

I am currently going to physio therapy. The Co-pay was 40.00 frost visit and each follow up with be 30.00.

The pain grows increasingly worse with each passing day, and I am unable to do many of the daily things I would do before the assault, including  volunteering as often as I would like with local community organizations.

I am in need of an MRI on my brain, spine, shoulders and private area to properly diagnose and thus treat the severe pain I am in. The pain is so severe I have had to now borrow my friend’s mobility scooter to travel around town to make medical and legal appointments.

While a formal investigation is now underway for the assault, which is a step to healing and moving forward, I have yet to receive the MRI’s I require. I have been on the waiting list to see a specialist since April, who can issue a government funded MRI. After I get this referral it could still take an additional 18 months to receive the MRI for proper diagnosis, and therefore treatment. I cannot wait that long, as my condition is getting worse each day and not better. I currently have the referral for a private clinic to do an MRI, from my Doctor but no means to cover the cost of $895.00 per MRI.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, as all I want is to return to where I was physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually before this vicious assault. I ask for your support now, and in return I am hoping the investigation/charges I am moving forward with will help to keep our communities safe from further violence. Thank you.
